People that don't drive a lot of miles per year should use synthetic motor oil because it does not break down as fast as regular oil does. You still should change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles because nobody makes an oil filter that lasts more then 3,000 miles before plugging up.

You don't need to do an oil change so often if you are not driving that much.
To maintain grit free mechanism, it is good to change it every year even if you only drive a little bit though.

Ha, oil turning solid ? I don't know who told you that, but they obviously know nothing about cars.

I change my oil every 5,000 Miles (8,000 Kilometres) or every year, whatever comes first.

Even if you have only covered a short distance, the oil will start to degrade the longer it sits in the engine.

However, despite that, I wouldn't worry too much about 2 year old oil, but to be safe I'd change it.

There are a lot of variables in engines and the lubrication systems. Some can go up to 15,000 miles between oil changes, and some can barely reach 5,000 miles before the oil is black.

It depends also on the wear the engine has. If it is a worn engine, you should change your oil more often as the oil will be getting mixed with fuel leaking through worn piston rings/scored bores, and reducing its lubricating properties.

Changing your oil too often will do no harm, changing it too little WILL.

Don't take a chance - If you have the money to get it changed and think it may need changed, go for it. No point taking chances with your cars heart.
