Just moved to East Coast and found the oil change here quite expensive, typically +. I found some coupons for oil changes around . Can I trust oil changes around that price? Is it necessary to get the expensive ones? Thanks.

That is about the average price around the DC suburbs. Look for coupons to save a few bucks.
When it comes to more expensive ones it does not necasarily mean that they are going to use better quaility oil and a better quaility oil filter. They could but for the most part they just require a higher rate of pay and have to do stuff for customers. There are chances that the $20 is not quite as good.Or that the the more expensive ones have the price of the oil figured into the price and the cheaper one you still have to buy the oil and filter.
But if you ask me $20 is expensive when it comes to an oil change. Especially when you can do it yourself for free. It is so easy to do, why not do it yourself.

The oil is the same. The only difference between the places that charge $20 and those that charge more is that the discount chains sometimes use, well, untrained kids, so the chance of an error (like stripping the oil plug) goes up. The one place I would NOT take my car is Jiffy Lube. They seem to have a higher rate of screwing things up.
Still, it is not a big risk, and overall you can save money if you change your oil regularly.
I have a mechanic I like and trust, so I pay $30. If you are new to the area and don’t have a regular mechanic yet, go with the cheapo place until you find a regular place to take your car. In fact, the coupon specials are probably their way of enticing you to try them out for your other mechanical work. Go for it.
