when i was getting my tires changed on my 95 Lexus LS400 they told me i had an oil leak. i was planning on getting the oil changed anyway so when i did i told the oil guy what i had heard. he changed my oil and told me the oil pan gasket was leaking. so i took it to the shop the next day, they said it wasn’t the oil pan gasket, it was something under the timing, and that i would cost me a large sum. I didn’t have the money so i thought i would watch the leak keep putting oil in it until i had the money.
about a week ago the oil was getting pretty low so i put a quart and a half in and that put it where it should be. so i have been checking the oil level everyday, and for a little more than a week the oil level has not dropped any. thats scares me. i don’t know much about cars.
i park the car on grass so i cant see if any oil is leaking out. i use synthetic oil
is this a bad sign? does it mean the oil filter is clogged up? any thing worse?

It simply means that the oil leak is significant enough to cause noticeable oil staining around the area of the seepage but not significant enough to show up on the dip stick in a week.
