Part 2 of a very easy to follow step by step video on how even the most unprepared person can change their cars oil and filter. I used no special tools, ramps, jacks, lights or written scripts. This operation was done March 11th 2008 on a 67′ Camaro. Note: I’m not claiming to be a mechanic or an instructor so please keep comments as constructive as possible.

also i hate to rag on your choices there….and mind you your gonna replace that I6 anyhow so it doesnt really matter. But Pennzoil (Pennzwax as its often referred to as
) I don’t put anywhere near my engine. But hey clean oil is clean oil i guess. Anyway tho The FRam filter tho really ….do some Internet reading on that. If you put a new crate engine don’t put a fram on it.
Hey guys, I appreciate the heads up on the items I have used in this video. I got a coupon for a free oil change in the mail so I went to the shop and asked them to give me the products they were going to use. So they were free. The concern for me was that I had the car for 5-6 months and hadn’t done it, and who knows how long the previous owner neglected it. Thanks again for the info; I think I will google fram for the hell of it.
*SOME MORE TIPS*
1) Leave the drain plug out till the oil filter is replaced. When you take off the old oil filter it releases more oil back into the engine so best to leave it come out the other end.
2)NEVER tighten the oil filter back on with a tool. Just get a good squeeze with your hand like the video.
3)Start by pouring maybe 3.5 litres of oil then start it, let it run for 30 seconds and then dip and check the level. If you need more just put in tiny amounts maybe .3 of a litre.
4)Don’t over tighten the drain plug or you could damage the threads.
5)I’d recommend you buying an oil filter wrench, they help a lot, especially when the filters hot.
6)If using a jack MAKE SURE you have bricks or axel stands under it.
BYE for now;)
that is a good point i use a wix filter myself the only thing that he did that i dont like is when he used pennsoil that is the worst oil of all time i use oilzum oil witch i get from dennison lube inc. it is good oil thay sell castro gtx there to 508-946-0500.
Only morons use Fram oil filters. Google it and find out for yourself.
Internet reading doesn’t tell you shit, except for a whole bunch of somebody’s halfway informed opinion, much like yours. Anybody reading this should know to not believe everything you read on the internet because most of it posted by people like these clowns.
Fram does not use paper “end caps” they do however use cardboard Anti drain back valves. I’ll admit THERE ARE BETTER FILTERS OUT THERE, but fram is far from the worst. What do you guys know about mighty filters>
Pennzoil is a quality oil, not necessarily my choice but the preconceptions made about it “sludging up your engine” are heavily based on “days of the old” whereas ALL of todays SM rated oils are of very high quality due to strict API tests. For future readers/posters on this thread, visit bobistheoilguy(dot)com before posting about how one particular oil is junk.
I withdraw my previous statement about the cardboard endcaps. Fram does seem to produce some of the worse filters with the smallest diameter filter media along with cardboard endcaps.
haha nice vid i learned alot, “tht was easy eh?” haha thats how i could tell
**Helful Hint**
This is a quick way of knowing how much oil you need to put in your engine. Keep track and measure how much oil you take out and don’t forget to add the oil filter to the total also.
I like the tip about pouring upside down though that was neat.
i use percuator
Dont tighten the filter as tight as you can with two hands if you read the box it will say 3/4 to a turn after the gasket meets the engine
very helpful video for me and my new thirdgen camaro who knows jackshit bout cars. appreciate it… where’s my oil filter though?
Just a tip Don’t Use a Filter Wrench it torques it down to much a good rule of thumb is after it connects with the block go a half turn and stop but w/e
thx for uploading! this was great
Your welcome!
wow great vids you deffinately got my subscription!!.!!
The filter uses nearly 1 qt oil…check level, run engine, checklevel, add oil. Also helps if added oil to new filter before installing same…
Overtightening the oil filter will distort the oil filter gasket/ rip it, causing an oil leak that could destroy the engine. Oil filters don’t have to be muscled on with gorilla force, just hand tight. It is also a good idea to pour some new oil into the oil filter so the oil filter is primed and this helps to alleviate the horrible dry start issue somewhat. Dry starts cause a very rapid amount of wear to occur in only a few seconds and can rob thousands of miles from the life of the engine.
Always were rubber gloves when performing an oil change because used motor oil is extremely toxic and you don’t want that getting on your skin, causing cancer years down the road. Except for battery acid, used motor oil is more toxic than any other automotive fluid.
Also, applying a film of oil to the oil filter gasket will help it seal properly and prevent the aforementioned oil filter gasket distortion and/or having the gasket rip and prevent the brand new oil from leaking out onto the ground.
I must say that as a woman, and someone who has never done anything on a car before, this was GREAT! Exactly what I was looking for and what I needed. I’m a single mother of three now and trying to save money and be independent and I am sooo thankful for your very patient and thorough way of explaining absolutely EVERYTHING.
I will certainly subscribe to all your videos!
@MJSSimsProductions I appreciate your comment! This video was created exactly for your needs. There are a lot of other oil changing videos out there but I wanted to make one that made it very simple and described only what was needed to do it with minimal experience and tools. I would read the comments on this video before trying it yourself as others have made good points and suggestions. Thanks!
great vid, very informative
