I have a 2006 VW Passat. I just got it a few months ago, so took it in for its first oil change under my ownership this weekend. I took it in to the dealership because it’s still under mfg. warranty and I wanted them to look at some other things.

I did ask to have the tires rotated, which I was told would cost an additional . So I said fine.

Well, I get the call that my car is ready. I ask them for the total & they say it’s 0.23. I almost feel out of my chair.

This is insane. I never paid over for my last car. Is it because it’s an imported car or what? It does take synthetic oil as well.

Anyway, what do you think? Thanks.

I have shopped around ALOT, like every saturday and sunday the last 3-4 weeks and ive found a couple good buys, some if missed out on already, but If found one good one.

What I have found is a Cadillac Catera, 2000 43k miles (less than 5k per year), and the oil has been changed religously at the dealership every three months since it was purchased; clean carfax no accidents or repairs.

The family-owned and operated dealer that is selling it has some great prices compared to many other places we’ve checked out, and they’re asking ,988, which is about what it is worth (it has lots of extras like premium sound, and F&R and side air bags).

What im asking is is it worth it to buy it? All the reviews Ive read are either perfect, saying this car has been a dream, others says its a mechanics dream…

Any pros/cons ya’ll can fill up would be nice, Im really on the edge of buying it.

- I’m also wondering how well this would be on insurance..

- If I dont get it im probably gonna try to find a decent honda accord or nissan senta/altima.

its not a matter of cost for me. i get my oil from autozone, they have the do it yourself kit for about – 5qts of oil + k&n filter. i know a synthetic change at a shop costs +, i enjoy it anyway.
i have an 05 scion tc. i try to change my oil every 5000mi with castrol syntec. so far, i have been changing my filter with every 2 oil changes, so about 10k mi, and i use a K&N.

is this sufficient? will it last any longer?

Hi! I got an Autozone coupon for 5 quarts of synthetic & filter for . This includes Mobil 1 Extended Performance which normally costs 50 cents more per quart. I plan to stick to my factory oil change interval regardless of their recommended 15k miles. I just got it cuz it’s more expensive.

Anyway, would this oil be any WORSE than plain M1?

I am thinking about trading my car in for a challenger. But it being an american car has me worried. I don’t want to buy a car that is going to be constantly breaking down on me and costing me thousands of dollars in service.

So my questions is for guys who have own dodges, especially the new challengers, if you had any problems with it. I know I would have to get the regular maintenance done, like oil changes, brake changes and other routine services. But what I want to know is that if I am going to be able to use the car for a few years without me having to put a new transmission or engine in it. Also the other components in the car like the engine & transmission mounts, water pumps, etc.

I dont know much about cars but everyone I have talk to so far has told me that dodge does not have any good reliability. Also the reviews online for the challenger has given it 2 out of 5 stars for reliability.

I would appreciate any advice from people who have gone through it. Thanks in advance

I am not going to drive it fast or anything. Its only going to be drive to and from work and college and maybe sometimes around town. I dont like fast cars but something about the challenger is very appealing.

I have been offered two jobs, pretty good in this economy, and I’m not sure what to do.

Actually, I already accepted one of the jobs and have been working there for 4 days. It’s at a nationally recognized, okay reputation, franchise oil change/car service shop that just opened. I guess I’m called a service writer/assistant manager. the pay is the same as the other job and also weekly, just like the other job. No insurance but the shop is about 4 minutes from home. It all sounds okay, I guess, but these places open and close all the time and there is so much competition. There is a shop right behind ours, another 2 blocks from ours and within a 2 mile radius, 2 more.

The other offer is with a national furniture & electronic rental place. It’s for a manager trainee. Like I said, the pay is the same but they offer benefits and insurance. I found some bad reviews on the web about the position but I know someone personally who has succeeded, become a manager and is making a ton of money. He likes it. Besides the bad reviews the only disadvantages are that it is 25 mins away and they close later.

Both work Saturdays, no Sundays.

So, should I stay put, risk the business closing up and buy my own insurance or take the other, make the daily drive and work longer hours?

It seems crazy but I am really blessed with just having a job. I was laid off for a year and a half, so I’m just getting used to working again.

Any help is appreciated!
Thanks you guys! That’s exectly what I needed to hear. I kind of felt that was the right decision.

I have done EXTENSIVE RESEARCH and I know Nissan is an excellent brand. Also the Murano’s recieved high reviews on
www.consumerguideauto.howstuffworks.com

I have read countless consumer reviews, and people who have them absolutely love them!

This is the car I am looking at :

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=21&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-%7cE-%7cM-_36_%7cB-15000%7cD-_6868_%7cN-N%7cR-250%7cI-1%2c7%7cP-PRICE+descending%7cQ-descending%7cZ-47710&aff=national&paId=302514778&recnum=14&leadExists=true

There is NOTHING on the Car Fax from 21,000 miles- 79,000 miles.
Which concerns me a little. No oil changes, no service of any kind.
I am in frequent contact with the Private Party Seller, I’ve seen her family on facebook. They look like really nice well off people.
I have asked her these questions
What type of transmission/motor oil/gasoline are you using?- Not answered yet
Do you have receipts of the service done on your vehicle over the past 2 years? – She said she is a minimalist & does not keep things she doesn’t need.
I have asked her several other questions..
Is there something else you can think of to ask her?

I DO KNOW that the 04′s had some transmission issues & the Mirano’s require CVT Transmission Fluid and 91 Octane fuel…

I have scheduled a meeting with the seller next wednesday, to test drive the vehicle. I also schedule an appointment with a Nissan dealership to run diagnostics on the vehicle and make sure everything looks as good as the interior and exterior do.

I’m 20 and this is my first car purchase, and my family is pressuring me to get a NEWER Kia or Hyndai with lower miles.
But I know Nissan is a better build brand, and it doesn’t matter what year it is! It is about the quality and how they are made.
So I am looking for some expert advice and opinions..
My main focus for a new vehicle was an SUV, reasonable fuel economy, cargo space, good quality vehicle that will last me a long time. Also affordability and appearance is huge to me. Not like Mercedes or Lexus! Just appealing to my eye :)
Please help me..
-Thanks for help. I have looked at the Rogue! I love them, however they are more expensive to insure and a little more than what I am wanting to spend.
-I have checked on insurance & it is 0 a month
-In all honesty. I think asking questions and getting as much as I can from the buyer is perfectly reasonable. I would expect the same from a buyer if I were selling. And if she would tell me to F**k off.. O WELL her loss :) I can wait
- I understand mileage is important. However, my main questions was: On this protocolar vehicle, should I be AS CONCERNED as with a standard vehicle? Such as Dodge..
So would you pay ,500 for an 04′ MO with 80K-?

I just drove 10 miles after the oil change and the oil filter fell off, when i was on highway. I pulled-off & checked my engine to see that there was no oil left. My engine got locked out!

I reported to the Jiffy lube & customer service person says that they will take care of the repair. Means, they will replace my engine with a used engine.

What would be the best resolution at this point?

I do not want to let them put some engine in my car and escape from what they had done. How can i rely on a used engine that they put in? My car was a well maintained 2000 Toyota Corolla.

Should i go to small claims court & get a compensation for the car rather than going for replacing the engine? I dont know how it will work out and how long it would take. I dont have any contacts with a lawyer to take legal views etc.

I appreciate and thank you for your suggestions. I am from Cincinnati, Ohio

The Rover I am thinking about buying is very clean, looks well maintained. It has low miles and a decent price. I’m just so confused because I’ve been researching on them and I hear excellent reviews and very bad ones. I know it costs a lot in gas, but I’ve been trying to drive less anyway. Are they really THAT much money to maintain if you take care of it (oil changes & such.)

I’m living in the Chicago area and a Yahoo Answers responder praised the value of his MB Coupe which he bought 2 yrs ago…"I bought a 300CE Coupe, with 81K original miles, for 00 two years ago, change the oil, and put gas in it, that’s it. It even FASTER than my 911 on the top end (911 will run until about 145MPH, while the benz crusies effortlessly at 151-152MPH)"…..I have been reading reviews of this car and it looks like an incredible ride & value…but can’t seem to find one of these "gems" anywhere…are their MB clubs, Forums or MB networks where I can find a 1-owner 1993 Mercedes E-class 300? And if that’s not hard enough…any clues on how I can locate the convertible/cabriolet model for the same year?

I had gotten a mobil 1 oil change for & my gas mileage was great then after the 3000 miles i got a walmart supertec oil change & the mileage went really bad. 1 would get about 250 miles a tank on mobil 1 & on walmart it dropped to 180. Why did it make such a huge difference???
BTW i drive a 2002 honda civic sedan with 76,000 miles & i use the 5w/20 oil.

My check oil light was going on/off for the past two days. Today, it came on but didn’t go off like usual.

I was going to take my cavalier to Wal-Mart and have my oil changed. Due to allot of horrible customer reviews here http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/walmart.htm I *quickly* changed my mind.

So, I was wanting to know what is a good place to have my oil changed?
If I could do it myself I wouldn’t have posted this question, right? Yea, you would think.

Besides, I don’t know jack dittly squat about cars && I am NOT about to get my clothes, nor nails dirty. =)
