Auto Repair & Maintenance : How to Change Your Own Oil
I have a 2002 lincoln ls v8 with 107000 miles and its paid for although i still carry full coverage insurance. The car takes high octane gas and takes 55-65 to fill up weekly going 350 miles give or take. Maintenance also is expensive with oil changes taking 6 qts of synthetic. ive done some repairs on it coil changes brakes tires, etc. I am looking at trading for a new fiesta (not a loaded mid grade one)for the gas mileage and just to downgrade for maintenance costs with a car over 100k miles. I can afford to repair the lincoln if had to be I just dont want to. I do qualify for the ford employee discount x or z and with trade in a loan and the monthly cost of gas is comparable to just the cost of gas i pay for in the Lincoln. With the new car i would receive warranty and new car. should i trade?
Avis Lube and Brakes Condition Report
I went to Avis Lube to get an oil change and while I was there I was told that my brakes are in very bad condition and need to be changed immediately. I was completely shocked to hear this. The brakes work perfectly well as far as I can tell and they were replaced around 30,000 miles ago.
I am not sure if the service guy was being genuine and concerned for my safety or just trying to make more sales. How can I find out for myself if my brakes are worn out?
Many Thanks
I used to work at a little lube shop in griffin, georgia. However, the owner ran the business into the ground and the company went out of business. I have experience in: oil changes, tire mounting and balancing, Transmission services, Radiator services, Brakes (disk and drum), and other various engine repairs. Just wondering if anyone knows of anything like this in or near griffin, ga.
How do you reset the oil light, it keeps coming on when I am slowing down, turning and at other random times. The dipstick reads Max and the lights been doing this since the last oil change. Do you apply the brakes a few times to reset it like with some other cars or is there another way?
We have an 81 impala and when the brake pedal is pressed, the brakes are tight. Someone said it might be the incorrect fluid was put into the brake fluid. We just got the car four months ago and this just startd. We have only had the pcv valve replaced and an oil change done, both by Jiffy Lube.
How much would that cost to fix?
I bought a 2005 Yamaha R6 a month ago, and I was just wondering what I need to do for routine maintenance. How often do I:
-change the oil
-lube the chain
-bleed the brakes
Also, how do I lube the chain and bleed the breaks? Where can I get replacement brake fluid and chain lube?
Is there anything else I need to do for routine maintenance? Thanks a lot it’s much appreciated.
Okay so me and my mom were driving in my toyota corolla (about 4 yrs old now and just had oil lube filter change about a month ago. nothing major done to it except replacing front brakes) and as we`re pulling into a drive in, the oil light goes off and my car starts slowing down. and no matter how much i press the gas pedal, it won`t go. it`ll let me turn but wont let me apply any more gas to the engine. so i get out and we check the oil filter. and i`m used to the filter stick saying either low or high but this one says hot or cold and the oil line was pretty low on the cold so i`m assuming that`s bad? my mom thinks its a leak in the oil? and if that`s it, would it be safe putting just enough oil in it to drive it to sts to get it repaired rather then having it towed? oh, and what kind of oil do corolla`s usually take?
thanks!
its a 2004 model btw
Hubby changed oil last night and as I moved it back to the garage all the oil (5 quarts) shot out through my right front tire and brakes. The gasket had slipped off and this was a huge mess! Now I’m worried that it’s not safe to drive with that much oil that went through my brakes? Do I need to take it to the shop and have the brakes cleaned?
Honda says that when I take the car in for an oil change they are able to bring up "codes" (can’t be pulled up by jiffy lube shops) that will tell them if there is anything else wrong with the car that needs to be serviced. Is this just their way of making money or should I listen to them? I am just afraid that if I take it to Honda to have the oil changed (forgot to mention they rotate tires for an additional on top of the for the oil change) they are going to try to hit me up for a bunch of random fees.
Also, my car just hit 10k miles. What are some rules of thumb that I should follow (i.e. rotate tires, air filter, brakes, etc)?
By the way… Yes the oil has already been changed. I am now at about 30%, but will be due shortly again… The car was taken to a non Honda dealer, and I was talking to Honda, and that is why this question arose…
Would you use a FREE service that would allow you to take a estimate for auto repair and compare it to other garages and find the best price. The service can also find the best price for any auto repair that hasn’t been preformed yet. The service can find you the best price on oil changes, brakes, tires, and etc.
From a local mechanic who looks pretty reputable it looks like I can get all of the following done for the prices indicated. I NEED to get an oil change, and I think my transmission may be leaking just a tad.
1. Replace oil filter/oil/air filter… drain and refill transmission and radiator fluid, rotate tires, and just a thorough check of everything else. 169.00
2. Brakes replaced, repack bearings if needed, top off fluid, and 12 month 12000 mile warranty on em. 99.00
3. Replace fuel injectors. 69.00
So im looking at 340.00 for all of that, is that a fair price? Thanks!
One dealership I go to charges more for the same detailing then the other dealership does (about more), so is it fair to assume that everything they do in the more expensive one is higher in price? like oil change, brakes etc. I will call and compare the prices, just curious if anyone knows. Or is there a standard fee they have to follow. Thanks

a 2000 ish-2003 bmw 325i (same series)…how much would maintenance cost?
I like the BMW in that it has EVERYTHING that I want, it’s (2001) version is in my price range to buy, except I’m a student and I work part time. I can at an uncomfortable MAX 100$ a month for maintenance (not including gas and insurance).
I am a DIY person (I can do moderately difficult car repairs) so I won’t go to the dealer much. But I heard that this BMW needs synthetic oil and premium gas, and a couple of my friends said that BMW’s NEED maintenance or else they suck. I will do NEEDED maintenance (such as if I need oil change, or my brakes are bad) but I won’t do stuff that aren’t needed (like idk…coolant flush etc.).
Can ya give me like how many dollars/month (averaging all year).
