It seems like there are too many choices of what kind of oil I should get for my car. There’s regular, synthetic, semi-blend, high-mileage, 10,000 mile oil, etc. What I don’t get is when they say synthetic lasts longer between changes but doesn’t that mean it gets dirtier? I would thing that would be a bad thing. And does synthetic really lube the engine better? The cost is the reason why I don’t get the synthetic. I’ve always gotten just the regular and it’s worked fine.

I own a ’00 Mustang GT with 209,000 miles. Original engine and original transmission. I was using Mobil 1 fully synthetic for quite some time, but for the last 100,000 or so have been using Castrol GTX 5w30 regular. (non-synthetic, not high mileage, just regular GTX) It seems ok and the car is my daily driver. Never track raced, driven easy for the most part with the occasional fast take off with shifting at the red line. Is synthetic really better? Should I use a different brand? Regardless I change my oil every 3,000 miles I don’t care what anyone says. 3,000 miles, oil change. Period.

i live in texas and have a 94 honda civic ex with 207379 miles. i use it as a daily driver and more than sometimes have fast accelerations. its almost time for an oil change and i wanted to know whats the best suitable oil for my car. not sure what brand is in the car right now, just that it’s 10w-30 and conventional. i want to switch to a full synthetic. should i stick with 10w-30 or go with 5w-30?
should a get a high mileage formula? What about castrol edge? or mobil 1 extended performance?

I have it one half quart (.5Qt) OVERFull on Mobil 1 Full Synthetic High Mileage 10W-30 Motoro oil.. AND Brand new Filter, Thank You. Afte rthe SeaFoaming and Transmission Fluid and Engine Flush ran through it.. i now have a nice, thick, slippery, High Performance, Seal Conditioning OIL in there to PROTECT from here on out, as some ppl said they have seen engines that run Mobil 1 that are SPOTLESS.. I have that in my car, after MUCH Cleaning through the previous 23 methods! (It was prety clean even when i SeaFoamed it.)

Now im at .5 Quart full overfull on this Wonderful Oil.. AND Brand New Filter.

Will my car be OK? nd im thinking 5000 mile Oil Change Interval?

1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais 2.5L "Iron Duke" Tech4.. 180,000 miles.. "De-Sludged" no matter if Sludge was excessive in there or not.. now ther eis virtually "None" I dleaned it like 3 times, the last being an "Engine Flush" then the Mobil 1 FS HM went in…

I have a 1996 Acura Integra GS-R with 158,000 miles on it. It’s that time for me to get an oil change, and this time I was thinking of using fully synthetic oil. Is this a good or bad idea? I bought the car months ago and I don’t know the history of how the car was maintained. (Right now the car is running on conventional oil.) I’ve heard that using synthetic oil on high mileage cars may cause the car to leak? Is this true? Help please Thanks!

I have an Audi A6 2.8 Quattro. I am normally get the oil changed at the dealer, but I am going to do it myself this time. My question is: It has 129,000 miles on it, would Mobil 1 Clean High Mileage 10W-30 synthetic be alright? Or should I go with the Mobil 1 0W-40 European formula. I just figured with as many miles as I have racked up since it was new, it may be time to go up in oil weights.

I’m about to change my oil myself for the first time. I plan to use Castrol synthetic (same kind I got last time, and my brother swears by it) and my car takes 5 quarts retailing at each, plus a filter, totaling . Am I saving any money over the lube shops, or does the price of doing it myself merely ensure that it’s been done correctly?
I use high-mileage synthetic because my car has 135,000 miles.

I am currently using Valvoline Maxlife in my 1994 Volvo 960. It has almost 150,000 miles on it and I really want to make it last as long as possible. I change the oil every 4000 miles. Is switching to full synthetic (Mobil 1 High mileage) a good idea or a waste of money?

I have a 1999 expedition that has 208,000 miles. I have been getting the high mileage oil changes at jiffy lube for the past year. This is an extra or so. Is this a waste of money? Or should I continue getting this high mileage oil changes?

I’ve recently acquired a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix. I hope to hold onto this car for the next five years or so (at least), and I have a few questions about its upkeep.

          1. Mileage: It’s got about 145,000 miles; how many can I expect to get out of it total? I’ve heard of some getting upward of twice that amount before giving out.

          2. Oil: Is it worth using the "High Mileage Fully Synthetic Engine-Cleaning Platinum" stuff in oil changes, or is it essentially all the same? Also, it has an "oil life" guage, which you’re supposed to reset when the oil is changed. Is this a good way to determine when I should change my oil? It just translates miles driven into a percentage of life left in the current oil.

          3. Structural integrity: The underside is clean, but there’s some superficial rust in spots. I know I should get this fixed before it worsens, but will it last? (I live in northern Ohio, and winter/spring can get ugly.) How much will it cost? Also, should I get the car undercoated?

          4. Paint: The clearcoat is peeling, and I’d really like to have it repainted. It’d look better and be less likely to rust. How much does a decent paintjob cost?

If there’s anything else you think I should know, feel free to throw it in. I appreciate any advice.

I used a coupon for a free oil change out Firestone. The manager tried to talk me into a high mileage oil change but I didn’t want one at that time I simply wanted a normal oil change which would be totally free. 1-2 days later my oil light has come on and won’t go off. What could the problem be.

For some reason the dipstick where the oil is looks rather dark.

I am having hesitation problems with accelerating my 2004 Mazda V6 sportsback (110k miles).

I recently went to Firestone to get an oil change, after that the car hesitates randomly when I accelerate, so it happens I would say maybe 1 in 5 times when I try to accelerate the car.
When I push down the accelerator it hesitates and the car jerks like the fuel is either not igniting completely or is not reaching the cylinders. As I keep my foot on the accelerator the car hesitates a few times then begins to accelerate.

I took it to Pep Boys and had them do a diagnostic which they charged me () for which I could have probably used to buy the computer with which is ridiculous.

            The following codes came up:
            PO302: Mis Fire 2 CYL
            PO421: CAT
            PO455: Evap Large Leak

The guy told me that I needed a new coil for the 2nd cylinder which is supposedly in the back of the car and would take around 7 hours to fix and cost me around 0. He said after we fix that then he can take a look at the other two problems.
I know that the CAT code was coming up for a year now because of the O2 sensor but the car has been driving fine until I got the oil change. I had them use high mileage oil and last time I used synthetic blend so I am not sure if this could have caused the issue also.

I would appreciate any help as I can’t afford to spend that much money and don’t know too much about cars.

I have a 1999 Olds Intrigue that has 152,000 (approx) miles on it and it suddenly has a lifter noise. I changed the oil in it, (I use a high mileage synthetic due to driving conditions) but the noise is still there and I’m concerned that the car is about to go. I’ve talked to a mechanic and he thinks I may need to replace the lifters, but cost-wise, I might as well go ahead and just install a new motor. Does anyone know what may cause this? Do these things happen this suddenly? Also, can I use a Lucas oil additive to add extra lubrication to the lifters??
