After an oil change from reg. to synthetic (Mobil 1,an oil filter replacement (K&N HP-2009) and a little oil spilled on engine (no funnel!) I started the car, letting it idle for about 2 minutes and drove nearby. The first thing I noticed was the smoke from under the hood, I checked and apparently it was from the spilled oil BUT the main concern was the trembling of the car while in neutral. I also had difficulties accelerating when I switched into 2nd gear – and it felt like the engine was about to stall. This trembling and switching/acceleration problems never happened before this oil change. What could have happened? Thanks for your answers.

I have a 1994 chevy suburban with a 350 v8 in it. i now have 100234 miles on it, and I have been thinking of changing to Mobil 1 or even Royal Purple. I have used Castrol GTX hi mileage religiously since 80k miles. should I switch to synthetic? ive been told itll prolong the engine life, and ive also been told, itll cause leaks
I ask a lot of my truck (heavy 4WD, heavy loads, towing, etc) if that affects the decision any

Today i was changing the oil in my car by myself for the first time. When i went to the hardware store to buy an oil filter, i was going to buy a regular Quaker State oil filter for , however the salesman told me that if i’m putting synthetic oil in my car (which i was), i needed a high efficiency oil filter, and he ended up selling me a Mobil 1 Gold oil filter for almost .

Now obviously i’ve done some research before doing this and nowhere did i read that i needed a high efficiency oil filter to run synthetic oil in my car, however since this was my first time i decided not to risk it and went with what the salesman told me. So do i really need special filters to run sythetic oil, or did i just get scammed?

I read a bunch of people on here had the same problem & is probably the sensor for the idiot light.

FIrst off the car is mint shape 90,800km…..oil was just changed less than 2,000km ago in dec. Mobil 1, Wix Filter I change every 5,000km/ or 3000 miles.

Driving in traffic tonight and the light came on…….pulled over checked on level ground oil is A ok. Went to a friend house &l oil light flickered on an off for the 5 min on the way to friends house. Left friends house few hours later 10 min drive home oil light never blinked once was fine.

Car temperature was ok…..transmission level was ok…..Engine oil level was ok.

So i figured the sensor is screwed up.

As other people say the car is ok on oil but the sensor flickers.

IF I DO NOT GET THE LIGHT FIXED WILL THIS CAUSE A PROBLEM………EVEN THO THE OIL LEVEL IS FULL?

I’m going to be changing my oil soon with Mobil 1, and I was wondering what weight oil i should use. I’m almost positive it takes 6.9 quarts but I just want to make sure. It’s a 2000 BMW 328i. Its also getting cold up here, not sure if that would make a difference.

My MB clk 320 has 60000 miles, and has done all the scheduled services (B service) at MB dealer. It seems that the B service only check all fluid levels. I wonder if I need to do the services below:
    Coolant System Flush
    Brake System Flush
    Transmission System Flush
Replace Fuel Filter and Air Filter
The engine oil (Mobil 1)is changed every 10000 miles at the dealer upon the request. Is it necessary to change the engine oil every 5000 miles?

I may have a Flat Tappet. I have a 1985 Jaguar 4.2 and it Purrrs nice. It says to use 20W-50 i want to put 15W-50 Synthetic in it. Is this heavy enough? And in the winter i will use 10W-40 Or i may use 5W-50 year round, i am leaning towards this.

I know Land Rover V8 is Flat-Tappet but i feel i will get more Flow and less Pressure with Mobil 1 15W-50 than Castrol GTX 20W-50 and i hear people say the Synthetic makes it better. Id never put 10W-30 in it.

Is my engine Flat Tappet, and should i add ZDDP if i use an API SM oil? Which product? Schaeffers 132?

156,000 miles, Needs Oil change soon, want to get it right. Leaning towards 5W-50 Castrol Syntec year round.

I want to know if anything bad would happen if I switch to Royal Purple Oil. I drive a Hyundai Santa Fe 2001 V6 which has a a bit more then 160,000 miles I’ve driven it for the pass 70,000 miles or so the car has been somewhat poorly maintained and I have used various types of oils such as (pass three changes have been synthetic) valvoline castrol and mobil 1 I have changed the oil approx. 10 times the intervals between each change have been as short as 3,000 miles and as much as 9,000 and have mostly used Chevron Gas.
Well I was told by my friend that If I use Royal Purple oil it will clean out everything to the point that any gunky build up preventing leaks from the engine will be open will no longer be there and will cause my engine to leak. Is this true?
Depending on what I’m told here I’ll end up using this oil, returning it, or even switching to something that is recommended(I don’t mind paying more for a superior product.) Thanks everyone in advance for answering.

i have a 2008 VW jetta 2.5 that i just bought recently and i’m coming up on my first oil change. i know it says to use 0-40 oil but i’m having a really really hard time finding this stuff. (seen it once, but only i quart on the shelf) i think mobil 1 makes the only kind but it’s odd that such a common car would only use this kind and none other. i’m a do it yourselfer with this stuff but is there a synthetic alternative to the 0-40 that i won’t have to search for every 5000 miles??

I started doing my own oil changes recently, and one of the problems that i ran into is choosing the right oil filter. I live in a very small town, and the local hardware store only stocks 4 filter brands: FRAM, Motorcraft, Quaker State and Mobil 1. So far i’ve been using Mobil 1 since that’s what the salesman at the store advised me to do, but at per filter its a bit expensive.

I’ve done some research on the Internet and now i’m even more confused. Some say FRAM/Quaker State are the best filters if you change your oil every 3000 miles (that’s what i do), others say they can cause engine damage even if changed frequently. Most people say Mobil 1 is the best but there are sites that say they’re an overpriced scam because they have an even smaller filtering area then a Fram filter? And there doesn’t seem to be any info about Motorcraft filters at all…

Which of these 4 should i use?

ok, i went in for an oil change for a chevy 5.3 liter engine..
capacity is 6 quarts with filter.
i see the level is now about a 1/2 quart over.. i thought i’d seen them crack a 7th bottle..
question.. should i drain the extra 1/2 quart or not?
    mobil 1 was used…
    thx..
this was done at the dealers service center..
it’s been driven 30 miles and then i checked it..

I own a ’00 Mustang GT with 209,000 miles. Original engine and original transmission. I was using Mobil 1 fully synthetic for quite some time, but for the last 100,000 or so have been using Castrol GTX 5w30 regular. (non-synthetic, not high mileage, just regular GTX) It seems ok and the car is my daily driver. Never track raced, driven easy for the most part with the occasional fast take off with shifting at the red line. Is synthetic really better? Should I use a different brand? Regardless I change my oil every 3,000 miles I don’t care what anyone says. 3,000 miles, oil change. Period.
