How is ATI for trade school with mechanics/technicians?
Wondering how their courses are… If it’s worth the time/money.
+++++ I just realized how much I typed… Sorry for the wall of text but I hope you take the time to read it++++++
I know a lot about car mechanics as it is. I’d be so mad if I went there and learned nothing… But a job I want, wants me to be certified and wants to see my dedication towards the car technician/mechanic field.
I read yahoo and google reviews from their map’s sites… Of course, would anyone really write a good review if they had a good time? I mean if it’s bad, I’d surely write a bad review. Like I did for an apartment I used to live in. If it were good, I’m NOT so sure I would have written a review at all (I’m just being honest, but that’s the way most everyone is).
I have written good reviews on places before. But 1 was a friend’s car shop, the other was an audio shop that gave me discounts…
So now I’m sitting here debating on going to ATI or not… I mean I was really set on going, until I read a review saying someone in the mechanics shop discharged a GUN IN the shop. Another review stated the courses don’t teach you a whole lot…
For what it’s worth… If you’ve taken a course here, does it teach anything more than the following things?:
Replacements: Head gasket, timing belt, serpentine belt, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap/rotor/ignitor, o2 sensor, brakes, oil changes, valve cover gaskets, fuel pump/filter, starter, alternator, water pump, springs/shocks, air filter, oil pan gasket, head bolts, and… Probably more I can’t think of everything I’ve done.
* I’ve opened up dash clusters and replaced bulbs and speed gears/cables.
* I’ve read flashing ECU light codes to diagnose problems.
* I’ve done full engine swaps, wired them, only direct engine mount swaps though… No special engine fabrication.
* I’ve also done resistance tests (in ohms) on coils and wires. Voltage tested many strangely working parts in various cars.
I can’t weld, so I can’t do exhaust work or custom motor mounts. Would they teach that?
I don’t know how to wipe or flash an ECU to retune a car completely yet. But I’m good at computers and software…
And I don’t know how to take internals out — like crankshaft and pistons/connection rods/rings/etc… Nor do I know how to do cam valve or push rod head work…
Would I gain anything except a certification from this school?
Super thanks for your time reading all of this junk, it’s a career I want to move forwards in, I have no on the job experience. Everything I’ve done, I learned on my own with lots of reading and hands-on trial and error. But what I learned has stuck with me… And showed me it’s a field I’d like to further myself in.
Thanks again
Chris.
