I bought a 2003 Buell Lightning XB9S. Apparently it sat in a cold garage for 3 months in Chicago. I went to change the oil today, and followed the original owners manual correctly. I let the bike run for 15 minutes. It sounded great.
I opened the drain valve, drained the old oil out (which was very black). Replaced the oil filter, then went to fill the oil tank back up with new oil, and it only held 1.5 quarts. The owners manual said it should have held 2.5 including the oil I poured into the new filter. I then realized that the oil pan had way less than 2.5 quarts of old oil in it.
Now I’m stuck. I tried to do the oil change over again. After reopening the drain plug, nothing comes out. I can see the oil tank is full of fresh oil. So I ran the bike for about 1 minute to see if it would circulate. Still nothing drains out, and the tank is full of clean oil.
Does this mean the oil is not circulating? Where should I go from here?
Also. I inspected the air filter, and there is clean oil in the housing around the air filter. Does this mean there is too much oil in the bike?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Rob

I’m going to be changing my oil soon with Mobil 1, and I was wondering what weight oil i should use. I’m almost positive it takes 6.9 quarts but I just want to make sure. It’s a 2000 BMW 328i. Its also getting cold up here, not sure if that would make a difference.

I do oil changes out of my home garage, and there are times when I’m not sure what the recommended oil capacity (in quarts) and viscosity (5w-30, 10w-30, etc.) is for a certain car. Are there any websites that would easily give oil information for a large amount of vehicles?

I’m changing the oil in my ’99 Oldsmobile Intrigue for the first time and I’m not sure how many quarts it takes to refill it.

this was done at the dealers service center..
it’s been driven 30 miles and then i checked it..

I drive 2006 hyundai sonata GLS V6. I get my oil change every 3000 miles. But I started to wonder about when I really should get my oil changed. I drove almost 3000 miles since last oil change and it’s beem 95% on highway. Also, my car takes little over 6 quarts of oil and feel like takes lot longer to get dirty than other vehicles that take less oils. I just checked the oil and it’s not dirty at all. How dark should the oil be before it needs change?

I feel like I’ve been wasting money If I change oil too soon when it’s not doing any harm to my engine at all with not even dirty looking oil.

Hubby changed oil last night and as I moved it back to the garage all the oil (5 quarts) shot out through my right front tire and brakes. The gasket had slipped off and this was a huge mess! Now I’m worried that it’s not safe to drive with that much oil that went through my brakes? Do I need to take it to the shop and have the brakes cleaned?

what is the safest amount of miles you can go without changing it? what kind of oil do u reccommend. its winter time here so i dont know if that matters for thinness of the oil. Please help. I am 17. its a 4.2 L6 & Takes 7 quarts of oil. I heard some one say Mobil 1??? but im not sure. Thank You.

This is on North Harlem Ave in Chicago. First of all the tried to get me to pay extra for all the stuff that "needs" to be serviced. They put 2 gaskets on my oil filter which started spraying oil all over the ground the moment they started the car. They put the wrong tire pressure which is clearly shown on the side of the door of every car! Stay away from this place. They will put whatever the want in your car instead of the right stuff. If you do go there, don’t go sit at the waiting area. Be right next to your car and make sure they are doing the right things and ASK what are they doing.

Better yet, if you have a garage, change your own oil and filter. I don’t have a garage so i have to deal with these monkeys.

Imagine I drove on the highway with the oil filter spraying my oil all over the place. My engine would’ve been severely damaged.
I decided to take the car to a local shop to have them redo the oil change and check for any more F-ups from jiffy idiots and this is what the guy found:

They didn’t use the right oil filter and didn’t cleaned the area where build up occurs. They put 6 quarts of oil instead of 5. The tire pressure that I had resquested was different on all 4 tires.

NEVER EVER GO TO JIFFY LUBE

I have a 1990 Bronco in which I’ve been using fully synthetic (Mobil One) 5W 30. I’m about to do an oil change and have 5 quarts of 5W 30 and one quart of 0W 30, is it OK to mix them?

Share

Say, you are changing your oil and you vehicle takes 5 quarts and you accidently only buy a 4 qt jug of Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w30. To your surprise, after you drain your oil you realize its a 4 qt not a 5 qt jug as you thought. You start to panic as you have no way possible to get to a store to buy another qt but you find a qt of QuakerState 4×4 Synthetic Blend 10w30.

Anyways, would it be alright to mix 4 qts Mobile 1 Full Synthetic with 1 qt QuakerState 4×4 Synthetic Blend as they are both 10w30? Say the vehicle is a V6 Toyota 4×4 with 150,000 miles.

No rumors please as the internet is full of them. I have found many info about switching between synthetic and conventional and synthetic blend but none about mixing synthetic and synthetic blend. Thanks

Hello,

I am looking for a software the the quick lube uses to determine the amount of oil that the car should take. Please if any information will be helpful.
for example when you go to Jiffy lube as soon as they type in your car year, make and model the system tells them how many quarts of oil they should fill inside the engine.

Thanks in advance

I’m about to change my oil myself for the first time. I plan to use Castrol synthetic (same kind I got last time, and my brother swears by it) and my car takes 5 quarts retailing at each, plus a filter, totaling . Am I saving any money over the lube shops, or does the price of doing it myself merely ensure that it’s been done correctly?
I use high-mileage synthetic because my car has 135,000 miles.
